Amy finds “secret sauce” for cardio.

Some people want to do both strength training and cardio with us, while others want to focus on strength training at Sensible Fitness and then do cardio on their own.  The latter is what Amy Turner chose to do.

She is at Sensible Fitness religiously each week, focusing on total body strengthening/toning, with extra emphasis on strength and stability of her newly installed total knee replacement.  But she found herself struggling with needed accountability for the cardio, which was to be done outside of Sensible Fitness.  She recently found some "secret sauce" that has helped her a great deal.

Her story is below….

"I have been training at Sensible Fitness for over two years now. I sought out a personal trainer after multiple knee surgeries in the hopes of getting strong in preparation for a total knee replacement, which I have now had done. I played basketball in college then played at a professional level overseas before joining the “real world.” A lifetime of sports left my body beaten up and training became inconsistent.

Amy played basketball both in colleg and at the professional level.

Amy played basketball at both the college and professional level.

The real world for me consists of a job where I work a lot of hours making it very easy to skip workouts. That, along with the frustration of not being able to do what I did for so many years made it difficult for me to achieve the results I hoped for. Workouts at SF became my accountability and saved my sanity, but they were not enough. I could not force myself to do cardio on my own, outside of Sensible Fitness.

Then a friend of mine challenged me to complete a 150 mile bike challenge during the month of September. This could have been done on an outdoor bike, or a stationary bike. I crushed this challenge and found it incredibly helpful.  This was followed by a 60 mile walk/run challenge in October.  I had to run or walk 60 miles in addition to daily activities. So, for example, if I got 10,000 steps in a day (about 5 miles) with normal activities of living, it did not count.  I had to have dedicated walks in order to put this toward my goal.  In the end, I crushed this challenge too.  My competitive nature with friends – and Sensible Fitness - helps keep me accountable."

Because of Amy’s success, Sensible Fitness has implemented a monthly cardio challenge, starting January 2023.
